Bicycle Friendly University

UWL has been named a "Bike Friendly University" by the League of American Bicyclists at the Bronze level!

We all walk or bike at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse! Even if we drive or take public transportation to get here, we walk from parking lots or bus stops and join bikers and pedestrians on campus roads and sidewalks. And many of us even walk or bike from our homes in La Crosse or surroundings. When we travel to work, attend classes, or visit the UWL campus, we all are a part of a complex mixture of transportation modes. With a new City of La Crosse bike/ped plan, a city "Complete Streets" ordinance, and a renewed nationwide interest in sustainable transportation and walkable cities, now is a good time to assess that mix and plan for a future that improves the safe combination of biking, walking, driving, and public transit.

Students Biking and Walking on the UW-L Campus

In the 2014-2015 academic year, with the support of a grant from the UWL Foundation, volunteers will be conducting surveys, bike/ped counts, focus group sessions and stakeholder interviews to get input and advice for future bicycle and pedestrian planning on and around the UW-L campus. This work will result in a strategic safety plan and a first-ever application on behalf of UWL to the League of American Bicyclists for recognition as a "Bicycle Friendly University." UPDATE: UWL was named a Bike Friendly University in November 2015!
