  Living goose barnacles (Lepas)

FredsLine

This image shows a number of specimens of living goose barnacles (Lepas). Note the many feathery, jointed appendages called cirri that are used to filter food from the water. Although these barnacles are also encased in calcareous plates, they are attached to the substrate by a flexible stalk rather than being cemented directly.
