Animal Biology (BIO 210) explores the world of animals and animal-like protists ranging in size from the smallest protozoans to the giant whales that inhabit the oceans and seas. Representative animals and protists from all of the major phyla are discussed in lecture and examined in detail in lab. In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of animal life on earth, BIO 210 provides an excellent foundation for departmental courses such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Freshwater Invertebrate Zoology, Parasitology, Ichthyology, Ornithology, etc.

Course Description
A phylogenetic survey of the animal kingdom beginning with single celled organisms and ending with vertebrates. Innovation of form and function of each major animal group will be discussed along with their taxonomy, ecology, natural history, distribution and relationship to humans. 3 credits.
