BIO 312 & 313 LABORATORY ASSISTANT
This course is offered during both Fall
and Spring semesters in one of two formats. Admission into this course requires consent of the lab
coordinator; therefore, online registration is not allowed.

NOTE: Only 1 credit of BIO 479 can be applied towards the Biomedical concentration in Biology. BIO 479 will not fulfill any portion of the Biology major or minor requirements in any other concentration. It can only be counted toward the total number of credits needed to graduate.
1. BIO 479 LAB ASSISTANT:
BIO 479 is a 1-credit
Pass/Fail course in which a student is expected to attend and assist the
instructor in teaching the materials in a Biology laboratory. The requirements for being a lab TA in
BIO 312/313 are as follows:
Each Lab TA is required to
attend 2 lab sections per week (as scheduled by the course supervisor). TAs may sign up for two sections of BIO
312, two sections of BIO 313 or one section of each. The TAs will attend only those labs for which cadavers are
utilized plus the last hour of the lab session prior to an exam (for those
exams that cadavers will be used in testing) for student review. In addition, each TA is required to
attend a TA meeting the week prior to working in the lab in order to review the
materials that will be covered.
The Pass/Fail grading for
this course is based on attendance at TA meetings, Lab Sessions and Review Labs
and on his/her preparedness for teaching during each session. Attendance and Evaluations will be
recorded by each lab instructor and forwarded to the course supervisor for
final grading.
Prerequisite: The student must have received no less than an A/B in the course in which he/she would like to TA.
2. BIO 479 OPEN LAB TA:
BIO 479 is a 1-credit Pass/Fail course in which a student is expected to attend and assist the instructor in teaching the materials in a Biology laboratory. The requirements for being a lab TA in BIO 312/313 are as follows:
Each Open Lab TA is required
to oversee one 3-hour session of open lab each week. During this time, TAs will check students in and out of lab,
check bone sets out to students and monitor the lab.
Prerequisite: The student must have received no less
than a C in a BIO 312 or 313 lab.
