CONFERENCES/WORKSHOPS
The River Studies Center organizes, coordinates, and presents continuing education programs to the scientific community and general public.
Workshops
Wetland Delineation Workshops. An ongoing
series of wetland-related workshops is sponsored by
the River Studies Center (coordinated by Dr. D. Timothy
Gerber and UW-La Crosse Continuing
Education/Extension) in cooperation with several
state and federal agencies, including the State of
Wisconsin Department of Administration (Wisconsin
Coastal Management Program), Southeastern Wisconsin
Regional Planning Commission, U.S. Geological Survey,
USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS),
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Beginning and advanced wetland delineation and introductory
plant identification workshops are offered to engineer,
planners, scientists, resource managers, local and tribal
officials as well as to other interested parties who deal
with wetland delineation in Wisconsin. The workshops
combine classroom instruction with field experiences taught
by leading government experts in hydrology, vegetation,
soils, and wetland policy. A Certificate of Completion and
UW-Extension continuing education units are awarded to each
participant upon successful completion of training
sessions. Participants are added to a list of delineators
provided to federal, state, and local officials.
Wetland delineation workshops are usually held at several
locations in Wisconsin.
