Virtually
all non-White characters in mainstream movies
fit within six common recurring character
patterns, which we refer to as archetypes. These
archetypes reflect and reinforce the
marginalization of minorities in Hollywood.
While White characters can also show behavior
reflective of the six archetypes, the speakers
outline the six prototypes that glamorize Whites
and present them as "raceless" (i.e.,
mainstream) characters that appeal to all
audiences. Armed with this critical framework,
we analyze contemporary mainstream movies on an
ongoing basis. This is the report that Hollywood doesn't want you to see. You will never see movies the same way again.
