Zach Wahls

On
January 31, 2011, Zach Wahls captured the
nations attention when, as a 19-year-old student
of University of Iowa, he testified in front of
the Iowa House Judiciary Committee regarding the
proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay
marriage in Iowa. As a man with two moms he is
very passionate about advocating for gay rights.
His testimony, after being filmed and posted to
youtube.com, went viral receiving 1.5 million
views in just two weeks and exceeding 15 million
by April 2012. As a child Zach was often teased
for having two moms but did not realize until he
was in eighth grade that there were people who
did not approve of his type of family structure.
Zach has become vocal about his family
and the importance of equal treatment and
marriage rights of people who identify as
LGBTQQIA and is a major force in the movement
for gay rights.
