|The Cooperative Education and Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to gain work experience related to their academic major or career field, earn academic credit for the experience, and explore career options while still in school.|
The staff of Career Services conducts Internship Information Sessions (see the Career Events schedule on the Career Services homepage for a schedule of these sessions or view an on-line version of the information session, requires Acrobat Reader) for students planning to participate in the Cooperative Education and Internship Program. All students seeking internships are encouraged to attend one of these hour long sessions to get complete information on the internship application process.
Credits and Eligibility
Depending on the student's major/minor, the eligibility requirements and the type and amount of credit varies. Students should refer to the University Catalog to determine if credit is offered through their major; if not, they may be eligible for credit through university wide elective credit.
Career Services utilizes an online system called Eagle Opportunities to advertise internship opportunities to students. All UW-La Crosse students have access to Eagle Opportunities and can use their account to view available internships. The internship listings in Eagle Opportunities change on a daily basis, so students are encouraged to log-in frequently or to set up an agent in the system that will alert them to new internships when they are posted. All students interested in applying for internships should have an updated resume uploaded into Eagle.
In addition to internships, part-time and seasonal jobs for students and jobs for graduates and alums are also advertised in Eagle Opportunities.
Internship Availability and Deadlines
Internships are available each semester. While most students work in part-time internships, full time positions are frequently available. Internships are available on a competitive basis; no student is guaranteed an internship.

|Step 1||Log on to the Eagle Opportunities to complete demographic and resume information and to submit this information to Career Services.|
|Step 2||After the resume is uploaded into Eagle Opportunities, students may review available positions on-line. Positions are updated frequently, so students should check the listings for new positions regularly.|
|Step 3||Students apply for posted positions through Eagle Opportunities.|
In some cases, students apply for internships directly through Eagle Opportunities and are not required to write a cover letter. However, many employers will require that the applicants submit their own letter of application. Click here for more information on letters in the job search.
Most internship employers will conduct interviews (either at the work site, on campus, or by phone) before making a hiring decision. Students are encouraged to prepare for these interviews by reviewing information on the employer and position and by reviewing interview information from Career Services. Prior to interviewing with an employer, it is strongly suggested that students discuss interviewing with a Career Services staff member. Interview and hiring decisions are made by the employers, not the Career Services staff.
