Songs, Books, and Stories

Special Activities

Monday

Bugs can hop, crawl, fly, chirp, creak or buzz!

The Grouchy Ladybug

We will illustrate our own version of today’s story.  We’ll also make ladybug puppets and put together a bug fact book.

Tuesday

Bees and ants live in homes they build.  They have a queen and workers.

I Can’t Said the Ant

We’ll work on our bug books.

Wednesday

Insects have 3 body parts: head, thorax and abdomen.  Insects come in many shapes and sizes.

Insects All Around

We will create our own bugs.  We’ll also go on a bug hunt.  How many can we find?

Thursday

Butterflies go through metamorphosis.  Their metamorphosis has four stages.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
A Caterpillar Crawled

We will make symmetrical butterflies using marshmallows.  We will also act out the four stages of metamorphosis with our bodies.

Friday

Bugs have many homes: hives, hills, webs, water, ground, etc.

We will enjoy a “Lightening Bug Surprise Story”

Today we’ll make “love bug” pictures, make fancy wings for our favorite bug, and play bug bingo.

Changes to the Environment

The dramatic play center will become an entomology center.  In the art area we’ll create using pipe cleaners.  For sensory play we will make ants on a log to tickle our sense of taste.  For construction play we’ll work with unit blocks.  For small motor play we’ll make tunnels by digging in sand and for large motor play we’ll follow ant trails as we crawl, fly, and climb through tunnels doing the various jobs of the ants.
