Dance at Grandpa’s
Winter Days in the Big Woods
“Over the River”

Ani’s mom will do a special pinch pot project with us.  We’ll also use cracker boxes to make covered wagons.

Tuesday

Pioneers had to make many of the items they wanted or needed.

Pancakes, Pancakes by Eric Carle

We will use plastic bags, ice, milk, and a few other ingredients to make ice cream.  We’ll decorate felt squares and stitch them together to make a quilt for our cabin.  We’ll also make corn husk dolls.

Wednesday

A hoedown is a party with friends.  Usually people dance and sing at a hoedown.

Soren’s mom and dad will join us with their instruments for our Hoedown.  Dress up!  Vests, boots, hats, aprons, overalls, bonnets!  Singin’ and dancin’ start at 11:00, if you’d like to join us.

Thursday

CLOSED for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Friday

CLOSED for Furlough Day.

Changes to the Environment

The dramatic play area will feature a log cabin with a fireplace for cooking, feather beds for sleeping, quilts, etc.  For art play we’ll use our hands to make many, many turkeys.  For sensory play we will use a variety of wonderfully smelling ingredients to make ice cream.  We’ll also use our sense of touch as we feel the ice and shake the bag.  We’ll use the Lincoln Logs for construction play.  For small motor play we’ll add small horses to the unit blocks and for large motor play we’ll use the big hollow blocks to build homes and corrals and fences for the horses.

Special Notes

We will also have an old fashioned frame and dress-up clothes for taking old fashioned photos.
