Curriculum

Lab Shot

Students who enjoy laboratory work and the challenge of identifying the cause of a patient's disease will find this curriculum to their liking. The program involves two years of college coursework (the pre-professional phase) where students receive a sound background in basic sciences and laboratory skills. Students then apply for the professional program, usually in the spring of their sophomore year. In the first year of the professional program (usually in their junior year) students complete the pre-clinical course work and general education requirements. In first semester of the professional program, students also apply to one or more of the accredited hospital sponsored programs that are affiliated with UW-La Crosse.

The second year of the professional program is spent at an accredited hospital where students receive extensive training using state-of-the-art clinical instrumentation. After successful completion of the curriculum at the hospital site, students receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science and are eligible to sit for the national certification examinations(s).

Affiliated Hospital Programs

Students will complete the final nine months of the program in one of the following accredited-hospital programs. Students will apply to the hospital programs during the first fall semester in the professional portion of the program (typically in fall of the junior year). To be considered for admission to a hospital-accredited program, a GPA of 2.75 is recommended and a GPA of 2.5 (science and overall) is required.
