Applying To UW La Crosse

For information about applying to UW La Crosse, contact the Admissions Office. An Undergraduate Application for Admission is required of all freshmen, transfer and post baccalaureate applicants. If you're thinking about transferring to UW La Crosse and you're wondering what courses will apply toward the major in Communication Studies, contact the College of Liberal Studies for advising assistance. For advice about General University Requirements, contact the Academic Advising Center.

Once you have been admitted to UW La Crosse, we recommend that you formally declare your major as soon as possible in order to establish a plan of study, gain access to classes during the first phase of registration, and receive important information from the department.

Declaring the Communication Studies Major

Criteria For Declaring

Pre-majors:  Once you have been admitted to UW La Crosse through the Admissions Office, you may declare as a pre-CST major in Communication Studies. It is to your best advantage to declare the pre-CST major as soon as possible in order to establish a plan of study, gain access to classes during the first phase of registration, and receive important information from your advisor in the department.

Majors: Upon completion of a minimum of 45 semester credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.50, including courses taken at other institutions; Completing CST 110, ENG 110 and CST 190 (or equivalent courses transferred from other institutions), each with a final grade of B or better, you may declare a Communication Studies major in the emphasis of your choice. See your faculty advisor to complete the paperwork to declare your major.

Procedure For Declaring

Contact your academic advisor to declare in person any time throughout the year.  Be sure to provide copies of your SNAP (unofficial is fine) in order to verify your GPA and to have your coursework evaluated.  We will determine which courses may be applied toward the major, and develop a plan for your remaining coursework.  Once you have declared, you will also be able to register for some classes that are restricted to majors/minors only.
