COMMON COURSE SYLLABUS
The common syllabus for CST 110 isഀ
a part of your instructor’s syllabus. ഀ
CST 110 is an integral and challenging part of the UWL schedule of coreഀ
courses. The core courses involveഀ
skills and knowledge that the university faculty have determined to beഀ
essential for academic and professional success. The following assignments,ഀ
common to all sections of CST 110, address the CST 110 course objectives:
There will be four to six graded individual extemporaneousഀ
oral presentations given in the classroom in front of the other students of theഀ
class.
· ഀ
At least two presentations will be informative in nature.
· ഀ
At least one presentation will require the use of outsideഀ
sources of information.
· ഀ
At least one presentation will require the use of visualഀ
aids.
· ഀ
At least one presentation will be videotaped.
· ഀ
At least one self-critique of a videotaped presentation.
· ഀ
At least one peer critique of another student’sഀ
presentation.
· ഀ
At least two presentations will be persuasive in nature.
· ഀ
There will be at least two written tests, a midterm and aഀ
final.
Although speeches are developed and given individually yourഀ
instructor may use various methods including group work during the preparationഀ
stage. In order to begin fulfilling theഀ
department’s writing-in-the-majorഀ
program, students are expected to develop and use preparation outlinesഀ
to plan their speeches and use speaking outlines while delivering theirഀ
speeches. APA (American Psychologicalഀ
Association) format should be used for referencing supporting materials. Each section will visit Murphy Library for aഀ
library orientation exercise.
NOTE: yourഀ
instructor will determine instructions and requirements for all assignmentsഀ
including evaluation criteria.
