CST 300 Poster Sessions
Dr. Linda Dickmeyer invites everyone to check out the hard work of our own Communication Studies scholars! The CST 300 course poster sessions provide a summary of students’ current research ideas. So please make plans to visit one or more poster sessions. Bring your enthusiasm, interest, support and suggestions. Many ideas will be used/developed for CST 499. Come see the VARIETY of original ideas and ways that we study human communication!
Each Session begins shortly after the class period start time. Poster sessions are being held in Center for Arts on the third floor. Exact location varies—check hallways, Resource Center, Lounge, CFA 347. Stay a minute, stay awhile; come one day, come to all!

Upon their return to UW-L, one of the participants said that “UW-L Communication Studies students’ understanding of research and application of appropriate research strategies is considerably better than that of students from the other universities that attended the conference.”
Good job, students!
Service learning a BIG DEAL in CST department
Did you know that since fall semester of 1998 the students in CST 412 Persuasion classes have raised $14,600 for charitable organizations in the La Crosse area? And that doesn't count the food, supplies, and events that have also been hosted by CST 412 students. This is just one of many examples of the involvement of CST students in Service learning that benefits the community (the Humane Society telethon, PR campaigns, and Professional Communication class speeches are other examples).
Did you know, for example, that students in CST 360 Public Relations are required to do a mini campaign project that provides public relations-related services to a client? Did you know that 53 mini projects will be done to benefit clients in the spring semester 2004 alone? Did you know that since 2000, 291 mini projects have been done for client businesses and non-profits and that ALL of that service was offered on a volunteer basis?
Don’t ever doubt about whether our department is helping the community!
Dr. Knox’s fantastic Midwest bus tour
Dr. Ronda Knox, Associate Professor, attended the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Indianapolis in mid-April. CST student Maggie Rice also attended the conference and presented a paper.
Hello from a recent grad
Dr. Cheri Niedzwiecki shares this e-mail from Becky Pillsbury, a recent CST grad:
I am
living in
Nashville, TN right
now working in the entertainment industry...it is fun and
exciting, but something I only plan to do temporarily.
Ultimately, I need a career that I feel makes a
difference. My plan is to apply for grad school for the
fall of 2005 at the University of Oregon or Denver
University, for International Studies. This is partially
because I enjoyed the topic of Intercultural Communication
so much.
