New CST faculty member hired
The Department of Communication Studies is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Satoshi Toyosaki as our newest tenure-track faculty member. Mr. Toyosaki will soon be defending his doctoral dissertation at Southern Illinois University, and will join us as an assistant professor. He will be teaching four sections of CST 110 in the fall. His office will be located in 319 CFA.
Toyosaki has been in the United States for many years. He earned his A.A. from Belleville Area College in Illinois. Later, he earned his B.A. from Eastern Illinois University. He earned his M.A. at Central Missouri State University. He has his E.S.L. certification for teaching Japanese to speakers of other languages, and he has an undergraduate minor in Spanish.
His research interests are in interpersonal and intercultural communication, as well as in teaching methodologies. The department expects that he will be teaching a variety of courses in our department, including CST 302 - our new research methods class.
This faculty position was one of only two new tenure-track faculty positions created campus-wide in anticipation of the Fall 2005 freshman enrollment increase. We are grateful to Dean John Mason and Provost Elizabeth Hitch for their support of our department in allowing us this continuing position.
Please join us in welcoming Satoshi Toyosaki to the CST department!
Karen King retirement
Please join the CST Department in sending best wishes to Karen King, our program assistant. Karen is retiring June 6 after many years of service to the university and five years in the CST office. We wish Karen the best of happiness in all her future endeavors - those that involve wearing a red hat, and those that don't.
A search for Karen's replacement has begun.

Graduates’ reception a big success
Our second annual spring reception for graduating seniors was a big success. We had a turn-out of more than a hundred grads and family members. Here are a couple of pictures taken on the big day, May 14.
