Ceramic: Raku/Sager & Post Reduction Fuming Methods

Adults Beginner/Intermediate (a credit option is also available)

Picture of ceramic artwork. These workshops are designed for students of all levels of ceramic ability. You will explore raku, horse-hair fuming and sagger firing methods. The use of these fast-firing techniques yields rich texture and color. Clay artists are intrigued by the fleeting marks made when clay, heat and smoke interact. The serendipitous nature of these low temperature processes makes discovery as significant as invention.

Forms that compliment the raku process will be demonstrated. Beginning students will make forms using hand building methods while more advanced students may work on the potter’s wheel. All pieces will be bisque fired before they are finished with specially formulated glazes.

If time permits, the workshops may include building a simple raku kiln.Picture of ceramic artwork.
