Admission and Program Requirements

UW-La Crosse Graduate Admission

Admission guidelines:
To qualify for unconditional admission to graduate study, you must have:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  2. (a) An overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.85 on a 4.00 scale, or
    (b) An average of at least 3.00 in the last half of all undergraduate work, or
    (c) An average of at least 3.00 for no less than 12 semester credits of graduate study at another accredited graduate school.
  3. Departmental or school/college approval to enter the graduate program chosen.
  4. Satisfactory scores in all tests required by established program, department or college policy.

Physical Education Teaching Option
Pre-requisites or equivalents are:

  1. Undergraduate major/minor in physical education from an accredited four-year institution.
  2. Documented course work in the following areas:
    a. anatomy/physiology
    b. measurement and evaluation in physical education
    c. adapted physical education
    d. motor development/behavior/child development
  3. Admission into UW La Crosse Graduate Studies prior to first semester course enrollment. Online application: https://apply.wisconsin.edu
  4. Successful completion of course(s) offered the first semester of the rotation. Enrollment in first course(s) of rotation contingent upon admission to Graduate Studies.

Sport Administration Option
Pre-requisites or equivalents are:

  1. Undergraduate major/minor in physical education and/or sport science/management from an accredited four-year institution.
    or
  2. Documented course work in:
    a. human anatomy (3 credits)
    b. human physiology (3 credits)
  3. Admission into UW La Crosse Graduate Studies prior to first semester course enrollment. Online application: https://apply.wisconsin.edu
  4. Successful completion of course(s) offered the first semester of the rotation. Enrollment in first course(s) of rotation contingent upon admission to Graduate Studies.

Admission on probation:
If you have an undergraduate grade point average between 2.50 and 2.84 and are otherwise qualified, you may be admitted to graduate programs on probation if there is evidence of your ability to do satisfactory graduate work. Visit www.uwlax.edu/admissions for more information.

To help you with the application process, complete the following steps:

  1. Complete, sign and submit the Application for Graduate Admission form and attach a $45 nonrefundable application fee to:
    Admissions Office
    UW-La Crosse
    1725 State Street
    La Crosse, WI 54601

    You may also complete the Application for Graduate Admission form online at: http://apply.wisconsin.edu/
  2. Request ALL OFFICIAL undergraduate transcripts from ALL previous post secondary institutions attended. This includes transfer credits even if they appear on another school transcript. A majority of institutions give you the option to request official
    transcripts online. The official transcripts must be sent directly from the registrar of each institution to:

    UW-La Crosse

    La Crosse, WI 54601
  3. All students must complete the Installation Credit Agreement form. This agreement allows you to pay tuition in two installments. The first installment, equal to 50% of the account balance, is due 30 days from the first billing date. The second installment, plus a 1% finance charge, is due 30 days from the second billing date. Once signed, the billing agreement will remain in effect as long as the student is continuing studies at UW-L. Students without an Installment Credit Agreement on file will be charged an additional $75 upon billing.
  4. If Applicable: If you plan on applying for Financial Aid, read the materials enclosed and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov/
  5. If Applicable: Complete and submit the Minnesota Reciprocity online at: www.ohe.state.mn.us/

Once we have received your Application for Graduate Admission and ALL official transcripts, you can expect a decision within approximately 6-8 weeks in the form of a formal acceptance letter.
