Course Information:

Wacky Wheels™ | Grades 1-3
Students will creatively build and modify different vehicles including everyday vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more using our unique LEGO® kits. Concepts learned:

  • Basic engineering principles
  • Car built from LEGOsFriction, forces, motion and aerodynamics
  • Integrated problem solving
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork & collaboration
  • Challenge students to incorporate the traits of an Engineer in a classroom setting

Registration is limited to 16 students.

Vehicle Brick Building® | Grades 4-8
Students will build up to 2 different motorized vehicles per class, capped off with a final project using our unique LEGO® kits. Vehicles include everyday vehicles, construction machines, and more. Concepts learned:

  • Basic engineering principles
  • Gearing and gear ratios
  • Electric motors and energy
  • Friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics
  • Integrated problem solving
  • Communication skills

LEGO machineRegistration is limited to 22 students.

Gears & Gadgets™ | Grades 1-3
Exploration of simple machines at an entry level are applied and discussed in depth.  Provides great hands-on learning and building experiences. Students will creatively build and modify machines through basic engineering skills using our unique LEGO® kits and curriculum. Concepts learned:

  • Basic engineering principles
  • Simple and compound machines
  • Gearing
  • Forces in motion
  • Integrated problem solving
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Challenge students to incorporate the traits of an Engineer in a classroom setting

Registration is limited to 16 students.

Pullback Car FRENZY! | Grades 4-8
Students become Mini-Engineers, challenged to design new vehicles utilizing pieces from supplied cars. Over the course of the class students participate in experiments designed to demonstrate science and engineering concepts and laws such as gravity, potential energy and kinetic energy. Children in LEGO class.Concepts Learned:

  • Basic engineering principals
  • Friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics
  • Integrated problem solving
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork & collaboration
  • Challenge students to incorporate the traits of an Engineer in a classroom setting

Registration is limited to 22 students.

Scholarships are available for financially disadvantaged students. Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. 2014 Scholarship Application will be accepted until scholarship funds have been depleted. A minimum payment will be due at time of registration.

Cancellation Policy:
Refunds will be given minus $25 cancellation fee, if requests are submitted in writing to UW-La Crosse Continuing Education and Extension, 1725 State Street, 205 Morris Hall, La Crosse, WI 54601, and received no later than July 7, 2014. No refunds will be made in the case of non-attendance or cancellations after July 7. Substitutions will be accepted.
