Special Education Program
Portfolio Requirements
Special education teacher candidates are expected to document
knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary for teacher
certification relative to the Wisconsin Teacher Educator
Standards (WTES). The Reflective Practice Portfolio is one of
multiple measurement tools used by the Teacher Education Program
(TEP) assessment system to evaluate candidate progress.
Undergraduate Degree-Seeking Special Education Candidates: Degree-seeking candidates are those
completing an undergraduate major and the special education
minor. These candidates meet portfolio benchmarks within their
undergraduate major, including Pre-student Teaching and Student
Teaching benchmarks.
A portfolio benchmark is required for each student teaching
semester. Degree-seeking
candidates can access information regarding their portfolio
requirements using the link below.
Undergraduate Non-degree-Seeking (Add-on) Special Education
Candidates:
Non-degree-seeking (add-on) candidates are those candidates who
already hold a Wisconsin teaching license and are "adding on" an
additional teaching credential to their current teaching
license(s). These candidates meet portfolio benchmarks
within their special education course sequence, including
Pre-student Teaching and Student Teaching benchmarks.
The Pre-student Teaching benchmark occurs during the
semester of enrollment in SPE 446 (MC-EA certification) or SPE
447 (EA-A certification). Add-on candidates can access
information regarding their portfolio requirements using the
link below.
Graduate Special Education Candidates:
Graduate candidates must meet the same portfolio benchmarks as
described for the non-degree seeking candidates. Graduate
candidates meet
portfolio benchmarks within their special education course
sequence, including Pre-student Teaching and Student Teaching
benchmarks. The
Pre-student Teaching benchmark occurs during the semester of
enrollment in SPE 546 (MC-EA certification) or SPE 547 (EA-A
certification). Graduate candidates can access information
regarding their portfolio requirements using the link below.
