Video Conferencing and Webcasting Opportunities
Terry Wirkus, Educational Technologies
Wing Room 102
Five, 30 minute sessions starting 1:00 p.m.
As budgets tighten it becomes more imperative for UW-La Crosse to embrace our existing technology to enhance student learning. Video conferencing and webcasting both play a major role in connecting the classroom with anywhere on the Internet. Technology allows both distant students and distant presenters to bridge the gap of space and time and become equal and integral elements of the educational process. Relatively inexpensive equipment and the campus data network combine to literally bring the world into the traditional classroom. Student learning is enhanced and both time and money are saved. Two different sessions will be offered in Wing Technology Center room 104.
Session A will demonstrate how high definition television takes videoconferencing to the next level. With two different channels now available the instructor can appear on one monitor while the PowerPoint content appears on a second monitor.
Session B will discuss how UW-L’s cable television channel can be used as both an education tool and a vehicle to showcase our students’ success. The utilization of the Mediasite technology in the traditional classroom as well as a complement to on-line courses also will be highlighted.
