ESL Institute 8-Week Summer Session

Welcome to summers at the ESL Institute at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse!

Summers at the ESL Institute are educational and fun.  In addition to offering quality courses in listening/speaking, reading/writing, culture and film, pronunciation and testing skills, the Institute offers students the opportunity to travel.  Students often spend entire days traveling to nearby cities and experiencing Americana.

Summer excursions have included:

A day in Wisconsin's capitol city, Madison

An authentic Native American powwow

Amish Country

Niagara Cave in Harmony, MN

Shopping at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN

Lunch on a riverboat on the Mississippi

A professional baseball game in Milwaukee, WI

A boat trip and tour of the Wisconsin Dells

Canoeing and horseback riding

American-style cookouts

Hiking in the bluffs of La Crosse

3 nights in Chicago, IL

  • Participation in Special Summer Events and Excursions 

  • No summer meal plan:  Students can use their own funds to eat on campus or at restaurants in the vicinity.  Students can also choose to cook in the dormitory.

All ESL classes meet Monday - Friday during the summer months.**  Course offerings during the summer months include the following:  Listening/Speaking; Reading/Writing; Testing Skills Lab; Pronunciation Lab; Conversation Partner Program; Student Access Learning Center.

**Note:  If offered, our upper level research course will meet 3 afternoons per week.
