Robert F. Allen, Ph.D.

Welcome to my slice of the web. I joined the math department in the fall of 2009 as an assistant professor.

I am a native of the east coast, so moving to Wisconsin is going to be quite an adjustment. I originally started off life as a software engineer, after receiving my B.S. in Computer Science in 1994 from the University of Virginia, I worked as a software engineer for 9 years in the Washington D.C. area.

While working, and to prepare for graduate school in math, I received a B.S. in Mathematics in 2003 from George Mason University. After that, I received an M.S. in Mathematics in 2006 again from the University of Virginia. In 2009, I received my Ph.D. in Mathematics from George Mason University. (Yes, it's like a tennis match... back and forth between the two schools.)

When not working on mathematics, you might find me experimenting new recipes (I love to cook) or playing video games. I've always wanted to learn to play the piano, so I may find a teacher as well. So the moral of this story is you never know what I might be doing!

I am always interested in working with students in both independent study and undergraduate research.

I have particular interests in operator theory, analysis (real/complex/harmonic), algebra (Lie algebras/advanced linear algebra), and applied math (math bio/PDEs). However, I would be interested in other areas depending on the circumstances.
