Proposed Economics Club Bylaws
Below are the trial bylaws that Andy Cowan and Josh Lieder put together. Please feel free to make any suggestion. We look forward to your input and getting this club off the ground!
Article I
Section A: The name of this organization shall be “Econ Club”.
Section B: National Affiliation - This organization does not
have a national affiliation.
Section C: Purpose- The purpose of this organization shall be:
1. To give UW-L students an opportunity to discuss current
economic events in an academic setting.
2. To facilitate a meaningful discussion and interaction between
faculty and students.
3. To educate and to encourage students to think critically of
the world of economics.
Article II. Membership and Dues
Section A: Eligibility – Membership shall be open to all
students of UW-La Crosse upon payment of the dues as outlined in
Section C.
Section B: Restrictions – ¾ of the membership will be UW-L
students enrolled for a minimum of one semester hour of credit.
The extension of membership and all membership privileges
including voting and eligibility to hold office shall be given
to all students without regard to age, ethnicity, gender (Except
as otherwise permitted by Title IX of the education amendments
of 1972), disability, color, national origin, religion, sexual
orientation or veteran status.
Section C: Dues – Dues shall be $5 per year.
Article III: Officers
Section A: Officers – The officers shall be a President and
Vice-president.
Section B: Eligibility – The president/primary representative
shall be enrolled at least half-time as a UW-L student, meaning
enrollment for a minimum of six credits as an undergraduate, and
enrollment for a minimum of four credits as a graduate student.
Section C: Election – The officers shall be elected by ballot at
the last meeting of the spring semester by a majority of the
vote cast for that office.
Section D: Term – The officers shall serve for one year and
their term of office shall begin at the commencement of the fall
semester.
Section E: Vacancy – If a vacancy in the office of the
president, the vice-president shall assume the office for the
remainder of the term and vacancies in any other office shall be
filled by a special election.
Article IV. Duties of Officers
President: It shall be the duty of the president to:
1. Preside at meetings.
2. Facilitate discussion.
3. Provide logistical support.
4. Organize meetings.
Vice President: It shall be the duty of the vice president to:
1. Take over the responsibilities of the president when absent.
2. Work to find additional educational opportunities for the
club.
3. Organize event publicity.
Article V: Meetings
Section A: Meetings - Regular meetings should be held weekly
during the regular school year.
Special Meetings - In the event of an economic meltdown, special
meetings shall be called at the discretion of the president.
Article VI: Executive Committee
Section A: Responsibility – Management of this organization
shall be vested in an Executive Committee responsible to the
entire membership to uphold these bylaws.
Section B: Membership – This committee shall consist of the
officers as listed in Article III and the faculty adviser.
Section C: Meetings – Officers will meet with faculty advisor at
a minimum of once a semester. Length of meeting will be set by
advisor.
Article VII: Faculty Advisor
Selection A: Advisor - There shall be a faculty adviser obtained
each year by the membership. The adviser can be anyone employed
by UW-La Crosse.
Section B: Duties - The responsibilities of the faculty shall
be:
1. Maintain an awareness of the activities and programs
sponsored by the student organization.
2. Meet on a regular basis with the leader of the student
organization to discuss upcoming meetings, long range plans,
goals, and problems of the organization.
3. Attend at least ¼ of the regular meetings.
4. Explain and clarify to the student organization campus policy
and procedures that apply to the organization.
5. Provide direction in the areas of monitoring expenditures,
fundraising activities, and corporate sponsorship and to
maintain an accurate up-to-date account ledger.
Article VIII: Amendments
Section A: Selection – These bylaws may be amended by a 2/3 vote
majority vote of the chapter membership.
Section B: Notice – All members shall receive advance notice of
the proposed amendment at least five days before the meeting.
Amendments- These bylaws can be amended at anytime by a
two-thirds majority vote of the chapter membership.
