The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages minor is open to students in all schools and colleges within the university.

Education majors: 22 credits, TESOL Methods (3 credits), and student teaching.  All other majors: 26 credits.

Requirements for all TESOL minors: proficiency in a second language demonstrated through completion of 102-level course work or equivalent experience, and completion of a university-level English composition course with a grade of B or better.

Core curriculum for all majors:

TSL 300 Introduction to TESOL (prerequisites: ENG 110; CST 110; and three credits from the following courses: EFN 205, ERS 100, SOC 225)

ANT 350 Language and Culture or CST 332 Intercultural Communication

ENG 332 Modern English Grammars

ENG 432 Introduction to Linguistics (prerequisite: ENG 332 or 202-level foreign language)

Multicultural/International requirement, 3 credits from the following courses:

       PSY 382 Cross-Cultural Psychology

       PSY 280 Cross-Cultural Development

       ANT/SOC 480 Comparative Sociology/Anthropology  (for ANT and SOC majors)

       EFN 486 Multicultural Education (rarely offered)

Additional requirements:

ESL certification for Education Majors:

       SPE 431 Language Development & Disorders

       3 credits from the following courses:
                ENG 334 Language Studies for Secondary Teachers
                C-I 467 Teaching a Foreign Language
                              Additional options:  Middle Childhood – Early Adolescence Education Majors may take RDG 328 or C-I 405.

                                                            Early Adolescence – Adolescence Education Majors may take RDG 324 or C-I 334.

       TSL/ESL 450 TESOL National/International Intern Program (1 credit)

        C-I 463 TESOL Methods & Student Teaching

All other majors:

       3 credits from the following courses:
                SPE 431 Language Development & Disorders
                ENG 334 Language Studies for Secondary Teachers
                PSY 436 Psychology of Language (rarely offered)

       C-I 463 TESOL Methods

       TSL/ESL 450 TESOL National/International Intern Program (5 credits)
