As a mathematics educator, I strive to advance the core mission of the UW System in order to
“discover and disseminate knowledge”, extending this knowledge and “its application beyond
the boundaries” of the campus. My scholarly activities into the teaching and learning of
mathematics seek to inform the theory of education, as well as produce knowledge that is
applicable to classroom practice. My collaborative research agenda is divided into two categories.
- TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR UNDERSTANDING: This area of research, in collaboration with Dr. Jon Hasenbank,
examines the effectiveness of refocusing instruction to provide students with opportunities to
develop well-connected knowledge of mathematical procedures.
- TEACHING AND LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGY: This area of
research has focused on the development of pre-service teachers’ technology, pedagogy and
content knowledge (TPACK) in mathematics through designing interactive digital learning
objects.
