Lecture 1 Leisure in Your Life
Objectives
Students will learn about:
- the
role of leisure in a high quality of life
- leisure
defined as both a period of time and as a state of mind
- the
work and leisure habits of Americans
- the
unique recreation habits of Wisconsites
- the
Wisconsin idea
- Csiksentmihalyi’s
concept of flow
- the
leisure concept of contractors and expanders
Readings

both
chapters “The
Nature of Leisure, Recreation, and Play”
and “Leisure, Recreation, and the Individual.”
Lecture 2 Reflection in the Outdoors
Objectives
Students will learn about:
- the
role of outdoor recreation in developing an environmental philosophy
- the
recreation philosophies of John Muir and Aldo Leopold
- the
definition of leisure education
- the
principles of reflective recreation
- sources
for experiencing reflective recreation in the La Crosse area.
