Reaction Paper Guidelines

First of all, I want your personal reaction to the play as an evening of Theatre.  What were the strengths of the performance?  What were the weaknesses of the performance?  How well was it staged?  How well was it acted?  What did you think of the story?  How does this show apply to contemporary life?

Your paper doesn’t need to take a specific form; however you need to cover the following subjects in your reaction paper.

1. Your overall opinion of the entire production.  Consider the following:
a. Audience reaction
b. Success of the play as an evening of theatre
c. Clarity of the story telling
2. Discuss the actors and their performances.  Consider the following:
a. Did the actors allow you to identify with their characters?
b. Did you believe that the characters saying the words rather than the actors?
c. Did the actors playing multiple roles make it easy to separate their characters?
3. What does the play say about life?  How does it reflect your life?  What are the major ideas beneath the surface of the play?
4. Discuss the play’s scenery, lighting, and costuming.  What can you say about the overall visual impact?

Any other topics that you wish to discuss may be included but do not give me a plot synopsis.  I want your reactions to the theatrical aspects of the production.
