FAQ
Where is the workshop?
This workshop will take place at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Cowley Hall. Specific room information will be announced as soon as it is known.
When is the workshop?
Saturday, October 2nd, 2010. Refer to the schedule for the workshop agenda.
Who's invited?
Anyone interested in recruiting or advising mathematical modeling teams. Primarily, this will include mathematics department faculty members, but
could also include faculty or staff from other departments, or even graduate students.
How much does it cost?
There is no fee for workshop participation.
What will we talk about?
The primary focus of the workshop will be on building
successful, sustainable mathematical modeling interest at
colleges and universities. We will also discuss methods for
providing feedback to students on their papers and models.
Do I need to have any experience with the COMAP contests?
No. The information presented in this workshop is intended both to help schools start new programs and improve existing ones.
I've heard that there is a math modeling competition at UW-L during the same weekend as this workshop. Does our
school need to enter a team in the contest in order to participate in the workshop?
The Wisconsin Mathematical Modeling Challenge (WMMC) is indeed taking place at UW-L on the same weekend as the workshop. While all
institutions are welcome to participate in both events, there is no requirement that you do so. Each event is (effectively) independent
of the other.
