Maintaining a positive classroom environment.
A positive attitude is important for success in this course. Sleeping or yawning through class brings everybody down, so I'll ask that you not do it.
[Accept / Decline ] I will attempt to appear alert and engage. I will try not to yawn, but if I must yawn, I will do so discreetly.
[Accept / Decline ] I will attempt to get to class a few minutes early and use the time to review notes and homework. I will be ready to ask questions about the homework at the start of class.
Dealing with large class sizes.
With 76 students it's likely that every exam and quiz will be missed by at least one person. To avoid making up a second version of every exam and quiz and to avoid judging what constitutes a valid excuse, my policy is to give no alternative times for taking exams or quizzes. If you miss an exam or quiz your final exam percentage will be used to replace the score. See the syllabus for exact details.
Similarly with 76 students it's likely that for every class day at least one person will be absent. If you miss due to circumstances beyond your control you should contact me. You don't need to give me details about why you missed, but just be honest about whether the absence was truly beyond your control.
[Accept / Decline ] No matter what the reason, I will not ask to take an exam or quiz early. No matter why I might miss an exam or quiz, I will not ask for a make-up. If I miss an exam or quiz, I understand that my final exam score will replace the missing exam or quiz score.
[Accept / Decline ] If I miss a class due to circumstances beyond my control, I will check the webpage for the assignment, read my text, consult a classmate for notes, attempt the homework, and contact my instructor.
[Accept / Decline ] If I choose to skip class, I will assume personal responsibility for the material I missed. I will not ask my instructor to tell me what I missed.
