1.        Announcements:

The chaired declared members present as a quorum.

Betty Miller, Psychology, has been designated as the GCC replacement for Thomas Schlesinger. Dennis Fater will not be replaced, since GCC membership already consists of two SAH representatives.

 

2.        M/S/P to approve the minutes of November 7, 2000.

 

3.        Second Readings: None

 

4.        First Reading, Proposal #10, MIC 407/507, Pathogenic Bacteriology, 4 credits, prerequisites, effective fall 2001.

        Prerequisites: MIC 230 and MIC 406 (may be taken concurrently). BIO 303 and 313 were deleted as prerequisites due to a change in the microbiology major core requirements.

 

MIC 454/554, Mechanisms of Microbial Pathogenicity, 2 credits, change number, prerequisites, and convert from a 700-level course to a slash course, effective fall 2001. (formerly MIC 754)

        Prerequisites: MIC 406/506 (or equivalent) and MIC 407/507 (or equivalent). This course fills the need for more electives in medical microbiology at the undergraduate level while meeting the needs of master’s students.

 

        M/S/P to waive the second reading and approve the proposal.

 

5.        First Reading, Proposal #11, REC 420/520, Commercial Recreation Management, 3 credits, change prerequisite, effective summer 2001.

                Prerequisite: REC 320. REC 401 is no longer a prerequisite.

 

REC 474/574, Experiential Education: Facilitation Techniques for a Ropes Course, 3 credits, change prerequisites, description and when offered, effective summer 2001.

                This course is designed to present in-depth information, skills and knowledge of the concepts and facilitation techniques used in experiential education. The course is primarily designed using the ropes and challenge course on the UWL campus. Prerequisite: students must provide a statement of health. Complete an Assumption of Risk/Waiver. REC 207 is no longer a prerequisite.

 

M/S/P to waive the second reading and approve the proposal.

First Reading, History prefix change from HST 500, 700 and 796 to HIS, effective fall 2001.

        Registrar Diane Schumacher stated that UCC approved a complete revision of the History curriculum in the spring of 2000; however, the prefix change for three graduate courses was not approved through GCC at that time. This is a clean-up measure.

 

        M/S/P to waive the second reading and approve the proposal.
