GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING

Thursday, November 21, 2002-1:30 p.m.

Members Present:            D. Duquette, Chair, R. Dixon, G. Gilmore, S. N. Rajagopal, W. Schwan, S. Simpson, G. Walsko

Members Excused:           J. Finch, T. Kernozek, M. Morziniski

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Dan Duquette, Chair. 

  • Approval of the minutes of November 14, 2002.

M/S/P to approve the minutes of November 14, 2002.  (6 yes, 0 no) 

  • Dan gave copies of  the revised Strategic Plan to Graduate Council Members.  The revision will be discussed at future meetings of the Graduate Council.
  • At the Graduate Council Meeting of November 14th, Dan ask the members of the council to send him their thoughts regarding the Graduate Workload, Mission Statement, separation of the Director of Graduate Studies from an already established College Administration, process of the separation and where Graduate Studies at UW-L should be by 2010.  Dan passed a handout of a response he had received from a Council Member.  The Graduate Workload will be discussed at future meetings.
  • Applications for Graduate Faculty Membership were reviewed.  The following actions were taken:

HPERTE:

25 approved for Affiliate Membership.
1 approved for Associate Membership
4 approved for Full Membership
1 approved for Provisional Status until Spring 2003  (6 yes, 0 no).  Faculty member has Associate Membership and is a renewal, the Dean and Chair of HPERTE recommended that he/she should have Assistant Membership.  Assistant Membership will not go into effect until Spring, 2003.  The Graduate Council recommended that Dan Duquette, Director of University Graduate Studies and Chair of Graduate Council grant him/her Provisional Status until Spring 2003, at that time he/she should apply for Assistant Membership.

1 denied Associate Membership pending submittal of proper paperwork (6 yes, 0 no).

SAH:

3 approved for Affiliate Membership.
6 approved for Associate Membership.
5 approved for Full Membership.


CBA:

2 approved for Associate Membership.
4 approved for Full Membership.


CLS:

6 approved for Associate Membership.
