Dan Duquette, Chair at 1:00 p.m, called the meeting to order.

Approval of the minutes of February 14, 2003.

- Reminders from Dan:
The deadline for
Graduate Faculty Applications is March 25, 2003.
(Applications should be given to your Dean approximately 10 days prior to
the March 25th date).
Files can be
reviewed March 31st through April 10th, 2003 in 142
Mitchell Hall. Graduate Studies
Office hours are: 7:30 a.m.-4:00
p.m. If you are unable to read
during these hours, call Fran at 785-8124 and she will make sure the office is
available at a time that is convenient for you.

- Strategic Plan for Graduate Studies:
Dan informed the
Graduate Council, that he is working on a draft for the Strategic Plan, and
would like input from the Graduate Council, the deadline for the draft is April
16, 2003.
1-Vision
What do you see as the Vision Statement for UW-L?
The Graduate Council discussed this, and will e-mail thoughts
on the Vision Statement to Dan.
2-Where will
Graduate Studies be in 2010?
Dan informed the Graduate Council there may be an increase
in the number of graduate students admitted to the
programs. The estimate is
20-43 additional students.
Last fall115 Graduate Students were admitted, this does not
include the Learning Community, or any student entering in
fall or summer.
a-Increase the number of programs.
(Currently there
are 27 Graduate
Programs).
b-Market Graduate Studies and the programs available.
3-Most classes are offered during the day.
The suggestion
was made to
extend the hours to evenings and week-ends.
(Many of the
Graduate Students have full time positions and
it is not
feasible for these people to attend class during the
day).
4-Graduate Students generate more dollars.
The above items were discussed and Dan ask
the Graduate Council to e-mail additional suggestions to him.
Lack of time prevented the discussion of
the Incomplete Policy; this will be on the agenda at a future meeting.
