Meeting Minutes

Thursday September 18, 2003

4027 Cowley Hall

Member’s present: Curt Czerwinski, John Jax,  Paul Keaton, Haixia Lan, Chuck Lee, Andrew Matchett, Kasi Periyasamy, and Helen Skala.

Excused: Richard Pine

Meeting was convened at 11:10 a.m. by Curt Czerwinski.

1. Introduction

Members of the Academic Program Committee (APR) introduced themselves to one another.

2. Selection of Chair

Curt Czerwinski was nominated and elected chair.

3.      Selection of Secretary

Members decided to alternate secretary based on an alphabetical rotation.  Jax agreed to start and take minutes for this meeting.

4. Review of Charge to Committee and Programs to be Reviewed

Chair Czerwinski reviewed the committee’s special charges, which are as follows:

• Report on the role of assessment of student learning in the program review process.
• Create guidelines by which minors will be assessed (use draft guidelines created last year).
• Determine how and when extra-departmental courses are to be reviewed (i.e. UWL 100, SAH 105, etc..)
• Review the programs that are scheduled for this year

Programs scheduled for 2003-04 review are:

Art, Chemistry, Clinical Science – Physicians Assistant Studies, English, International Studies Minor, Music, Math, Philosophy, Recreation Management/ Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management Major/Minor, Therapeutic Recreation Major, Graduation Program -Recreation Management, Graduation Program - Therapeutic Management, College of Business Administration (Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, Marketing, and International Business), and Graduate MBA.

5. Subcommittee Assignments

In order to equally divide program review assignments, a sign-up sheet was routed around.  Members were to sign up for five sub-committee assignments.  Chair Czerwinski will email the assignments around to members of this committee.

6. Review of APR Committee Self- Study Document Guidelines and calendar/ Overview of committee responsibilities

Chair Czerwinski handed out and explained the following items:

§         The Format for APR Self Study Report of Minors.

§         The Academic Program Review.

§         Format for Academic Program Review Report.

§         The Format for APR Committee Reports to the Faculty Senate

§         The Academic Program Review Committee Calendar

§         The Academic Program Review Process for Programs with Accreditation

§         The Academic Program Review Process for Programs with Consultant Review

7. Next Meeting Date

The next APR Committee meeting was tentatively scheduled for October 23^rd, at 11:00 a.m. in room 116 Cowley Hall.
