2. Proposal #1. ART 308, Computer Art, changes course description, and prerequisites. Effective Summer 2006.
A studio course using the computer as a
tool to produce artwork new creative medium.
Areas of exploration will include: drawing, painting, three-dimensional
rendering, graphics and animation software in a Macintosh environment.
Students will learn various techniques and skills that are essential to digital
art. They also will explore the Web as an expressive communicative space, learn
technical knowledge and skills of Web design, and design their own Web sites.
Prerequisites: ART 104 or 105 208 or C-S 101 or consent of instructor.
The committee wants confirmation that the C-S dept. has been contacted and responded. This was a first reading. There will be a second reading.

Prior to submitting an application for admission to the Early Childhood-Middle Childhood, Middle Childhood-Early Adolescence, Early Adolescence-Adolescence, and Early Childhood-Adolescence programs, students must meet the following criteria:
1) Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST). The PPST is to be taken during the first semester on campus. Students must earn passing scores in reading (175), mathematics (173), and writing (174), to be eligible for program application. Passing scores are set by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Preliminary course work-Students
must complete (
40) 24 semester credits ( General Education
courses (30 credits for music education students) before applying for
admission. These ( 40) 24 credits must include the following:
( ENG 110, CST 110, and EFN 205. Students also must complete PSY 212,
which is not a General Education course.) EFN 205 and either ENG 110 or

MTH 341, Probability and Statistics, 4 credits, effective Fall 2006, change course description and prerequisites.
An initial course in probability and
statistics for students strong in mathematics. Probability topics include sample
spaces, random variables, independence, and the binomial, Poisson, normal, and
exponential distributions and their applications. Calculus-based methods will be
used for analyzing continuous distributions. Statistics topics include
descriptive statistics, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis
testing, regression, and ANOVA. Prerequisites: MTH
MTH 207, Calculus I, 5 credits, effective Fall 2006, change in course description and prerequisites.
A rigorous introduction to calculus. Topics include limits, rules for differentiation, and derivatives of trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions, the Mean Value Theorem, integration, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. In the area of applications, the course covers problems on related rates, extrema, areas, volumes, and Newton’s Second Law. Prerequisites: MTH 151 or fours years of high school mathematics, including trigonometry, and appropriate placement score. (Successful completion of MTH 207 precludes taking MTH 151 or 175 for credit.)
MTH 208, Calculus II, 4 credits, effective Fall 2006, change title from Calculus II: Calculus with Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and course description. A continuation of Calculus I with a rigorous introduction to sequences and series. Topics include techniques of integration and indeterminate forms, improper integrals, applications of integrals to the physical sciences, tests for the convergence of series, absolute convergence, power series, and Taylor’s Theorem with Remainder. First order linear differential equations are explored, as well as the geometry of space.
MTH 309, Linear Algebra with Differential Equations, 4 credits, effective Fall 2006, change title from Calculus III: Calculus with Linear Algebra with differential Equations, and course description. A systematic study of linear algebra, and its interactions with differential equations. Topics include: vectors, matrices, systems of linear equations, determinants, vector spaces, subspaces, basis and dimension, linear transformations and their matrix representations, similar matrices and diagonalization, systems of first order linear differential equations, and higher order linear differential equations.
MTH 310, Calculus III: Multivariate
Calculus, 4 credits, effective Fall
2006, change title from Calculus IV: Multivariate Calculus, change in course
description, and prerequisites. A course in higher dimensional calculus, partial
derivatives, and multiple integrals. Topics include parametric curves, polar
(and other) coordinate systems, vector fields, scalar fields, the gradient
vector, chain rule, Jacobian, Green’s theorem, Stokes’ Theorem, and the
Divergence Theorem. Prerequisite: MTH

OT 415/515 Neuroanatomy move from year 1 fall to year 1 spring. Add new course, OT 444/544, Biomechanics and Kinesiology Applications in Occupational Therapy, 2 credits, to year 1 fall. Reduce credits in OT 426/526, Human Movement from 3 cr. to 2 cr.

O-T 444/544, Biomechanics and Kinesiology Applications in Occupational Therapy, 2 credits, effective Fall 2006, new course. This course will apply principles of biomechanics and kinesiology to the understanding and analysis of movement in relationship to occupational performance. This will include the study of structure and function of the skeletal, muscular and neuromuscular systems and their influences on normal and pathological motion and how this may impact occupational performance. This course will explore kinesiology considerations for specific musculoskeletal regions including the head, torso, upper and lower extremities and how this relates to commonly used therapeutic treatment techniques employed by occupational therapists. Students will explore research tools utilized in biomechanics and their application to a variety of movement based research questions.

4. Old business: Committee reviewed draft proposal presented by Emily Johnson for general education appeals.

Proposed By-Law Changes for Handling Appeals for Requirements in the General Education Program
The Faculty Senate in establishing by-laws and responsibilities for committees gave oversight of student appeals for course substitution or waivers to the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC). This was done prior to the establishment of a Director of General Education and prior to a change in the length of time members could serve on the General Education Committee (GEC) (members can serve up to five years). Now that there is more continuity and stability in the oversight of the General Education Program, UCC proposes that GEC be the oversight committee for student appeals pertaining to credit or requirements in the General Education Program/University Core Curriculum.
The Director of General Education and the GEC have the most knowledge and understanding of the program requirements, and the program goals and learning outcomes. After courses have been approved by UCC, the GEC is responsible for insuring the appropriateness of courses in the program relative to program goals and outcomes. Thus, it seems appropriate that the Director, in concert with the GEC, be the body to which appeals pertaining to the requirements of the General Education Program/University Core Curriculum be brought. This would include course or credit appeals as well as appeals related to the Writing Emphasis requirement.
