Academic Program Review Committee Year End Report for 2006-2007

During the 2006-2007 academic year the APR committee completed reviews of the following Departments/Programs:

  • Physical Education Teacher Education
  • Math
  • Chemistry
  • Theater Arts
  • University Honors
  • Computer Science
  • Music
  • Geography and Earth Science

In addition, the report for the Nuclear Medical Technology program was initiated, but not completed. It will be finished in the fall of 2007.

The APR committee also dealt two additional issues: revision of the ARP report format and a proposal to restructure the review process for assessment of student learning (A Plan to Implement NCA Assessment Recommendations).

The APR committee will continue discussion of the APR report format in the Fall of 2007 and will provide a recommendation to Faculty Senate then. Regarding the Assessment Proposal, the APR committee had the following recommendation:

The APR committee is, in general, supportive of the proposed restructuring of the assessment review process, especially with respect to the goals and design of the process.  The APR committee does have some areas of concern with the proposed assessment review process. These concerns include a perceived lack of expertise on part of members of the APR committee for reviewing assessment and additional work for a committee that already has a high workload. The APR committee recommends that these issues be addressed and monitored as this proposal is adopted and put into practice. There is also concern on how APR reviews of assessment programs would be used by this University.
