Physical Therapy Proposal, Revise Program Sequence
PTS 420/520, Introduction to Physical Therapy Practice and Evaluation Techniques, 3 Credits. New Course.
This course is designed to expose the student to the multiple roles and professional behavior expectations of the physical therapist and gain insight into the importance of these roles in the context of today’s health care system. This course will also introduce the student to the role of patient examination with emphasis on tests and measures related to palpation, goniometry, and muscle strength testing. This course is concurrently taught with anatomy so students may apply knowledge of human anatomy to a clinical environment. Prerequisite: Enrollment in DPT professional program. Lect. 1, Lab. 4. Offered Summer Session only.

PTS 422/522, Clinical Foundations of the Physical Therapy Examination, revise title, description, objectives.
This course is designed to instruct the student in patient examination and how to adapt the examination process to the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, integument and cardiopulmonary systems in the context of health and disablement models. Examination components of medical chart review, history taking, medical screening, and selecting and administering culturally appropriate and age-related tests and measures will be emphasized. Students will additionally learn how to document their findings. Prerequisite: Enrollment in DPT Professional Program. Lecture, 3, Lab 4. Offered Semester I.

Independent study of a special topic or problem related to physical therapy examination, intervention, diagnosis, outcome assessment or professional practice. Physical therapy elective. Prerequisite: Enrollment in DPT Professional Program. Permission of Instructor. Open to students after discussion with instructor. Repeatable for credit – maximum 6. (Note: number subsequently changed to 798)

5. Announcement: School Health Education add-on licensure available in cohort, hybrid format beginning Spring 2007 as a pilot. If it is successful, the dept plans to submit a proposal for a certificate program.
