I. M/S/P to approve the minutes of October 30
A. Directors report – asked members if they received SAH and SOE responses. Will re-send SOE document.
B. AAC&U Initiative on civic engagement/responsibility information will be sent via e-mail by Johnson.
C. January retreat (extended meeting) – will decide December 4th if we need this. If needed, it will take place the 1st week of spring semester. (start up week)
III. University Core Proposal
A. Reports and recommendation from subcommittees
1. Global Perspective Report – Ruthann Benson (attachment 1)
2. Core II subcommittee Report – Group has not come to consensus yet. Consensus about flexibility, number of courses required in 1st four semesters. Thinking about moving HIS 101/102 out of Tier 1 and adding it to Global Perspective under a heading of Historical Foundations. Also thought about eliminating Logic and Language category by splitting it into MTH requirement and 0-8 credit language requirement based or test-out of MLG. This needs more examination.
3. Civic Engagement/Core III – subcommittee gave two reports (see attached handouts). GEC discussed the purpose of UCIII. Discussed possibility of combining this draft with suggestions made in draft submitted by Global Perspectives subcommittee.
4. FYE subcommittee has not yet met.
Subcommittees will continue to meet and will return to GEC with more information on December 4th.
V. M/S/P to adjourn (5.30 p.m.).
