  1. M/S/P to approve minutes of Tuesday, January 30, 2007. (1 Abst.)

 

  1. Second Readings:

Athletic Training Major – Increase credits in program from 70 to 72.

  1. First Readings:

R-T Proposal:

Radiation Therapy program, revise admission requirement, GPA of 2.50 to 2.75

R-T 499, Independent Study in Radiation therapy, 1-3 credits,  new course

Independent study in radiation therapy may include individual readings and writing, projects, or research under the direction of a radiation therapy instructor. Prerequisite: Admission by consent of the instructor and the Radiation Therapy Program Director. Repeatable for credit – Max. 6

 

M/S/P to waive the 2nd reading and approve the proposal. (1 opposed)

 

                                                ENG Proposal:

                                                ENG 302, Literature and Ideas, 3 credits, new course

An intermediate level course exploring the relationships of literature and ideas in various historical or cultural contexts. Topics vary according to the interests of students and the instructor.  Prerequisite: Three credits in 200-level English courses. Repeatable for credit – Max 6. Offered occasionally.

                                               

The committee questioned the differences between ENG 302 and ENG 494 (both topics courses) and requested that the department provide a more detailed description and title. ENG 302 also should have an LX 139, which can be submitted to the Records office.

 

This was a first reading. There will be a  2nd reading.

 

ENG 357, World Literature, 3 credits, new course

A course designed to provide diversity education by studying world literature from different regions and historical periods, ranging from ancient to modern Middle East, Africa, Asia, South Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Focus and content will vary with instructor. However, each instructor will cover at least two distinct world traditions. Prerequisite: 3 credits in 200-level English courses.

                                                ENG 382, U. S. Latino Literature in English, 3 credits, new course

Study of representative works in English by writers of Mexican-American, Cuban-American, Puerto Rican, and other Latino origins, emphasizing the historical roots of this literature as well as contemporary cultural contexts in the United States. Prerequisite: 3 credits in 200-level English courses.

 

M/S/P to waive the 2nd reading and approve these portions of the proposal.

                                   

 

 GEO Proposal:

                                                GEO 102, The Art and Meaning of Maps, 2 credits, new course

This course examines all aspects of the map as an art form by focusing on the artistic component of the map and the history and traditions of map making. It also examines the map as a communication medium for spatial knowledge and understanding of the world. It further explores the meaning of maps in terms of their relationship to culture and society, the way maps reflect personal and societal points of view, and the influence of maps through mass media and the Internet. This course will not count towards geography major or any minor in the Department of Geography/Earth Science.

4.        Consent agenda: CST 378, Computer-Mediated Communication, 3 Cr. Change number from CST 240; Change title from Fundamentals of Computer-Mediated Communication.

 

M/S/P to approve Consent Agenda.

 

5.        New business: The committee discussed the need to be consistent in the way programs count credits, i.e. hidden prerequisites, required courses outside the dept, required Gen Ed courses. A suggested first step could be to include space on the LX 138P for listing each of these categories.  There also was discussion about  providing sample schedules of each program.
