The Academic Planning Committee was called to order at approximately 8:50 a.m. Thursday March 5, 2009 room 126 Wing by Chair Senger.

Members present:  Kastantin, Sudhakaran, Poulton, Czerwinski, Glass, Senger and Gendreau.

Guests present:  Ruth Ann Benson, Margaret Finders, Rhonda Rabbit and KT Willhite.

Minutes of previous meetings were not discussed.

Representatives (guests above from CLS) presented the proposal to eliminate two programs:

ME-PE track 2

Graduate Reading (3) tracks

Both programs have existed for several decades.  Staffing and competition from off-campus on-line programs have rendered these programs as on campus offering non-viable.  Candidates who would or could be in these on campus programs have found multiple on-line alternatives that are more conducive to full-time employment whilst fulfilling additional educational requirements and other professional development activities.  The existing faculty have for various reasons no come forward to offer the programs in an on-line format.  Retirements and resignations have depleted the qualified ranks of faculty on campus.

MSP recommend approval of these course deletions to the Faculty Senate.

Next meeting scheduled for Thursday March 12, 2009 room 126 Wing.  Primary agenda item is a WS proposal to add a WS major.

Adjourned approximately 9:45 a.m.
