Cycling
New this year! If you like
cycling in beautiful environments then this trip is for you. You'll
get to experience two of the areas premier biking trails:
Great
River State Trail and the
Root River & Harmony-Preston Valley State Trails.
More about the Great River State Trail, from
Bike Trails.net
Bird-watching is a special attraction along the Great River trail, which
passes through portions of the
Upper
Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge and
the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge. Eagles and pelicans can be
spotted in the latter refuge.
Eighteen bridges along the trail's 22.5 mile length have been upgraded
to accommodate bicycles. They cross several waterways including the
Black River, Shingle Creek, Tank Creek and Halfway Creek. Bottomland
areas provide an excellent opportunity to observe many wildlife species
including songbirds, ducks, great blue heron, egrets, deer, squirrels
and raccoons. The Great River State Trail is a great place for
recreation, bird watching and fun!
