Pop Tops Collection

To most people a pop tab is just another little piece of aluminum, but to thousands of homes across the country, they are a valuable resource. Children who are diagnosed with cancer or other such life threatening illnesses may be hospitalized for months in order to receive treatment. Oftentimes the hospitals that can provide this type of care are far from home and families need places to stay during treatment periods. This could be a costly issue, but thanks to the Ronald McDonald House, living costs is one less thing a struggling family has to worry about. For families in need, the Ronald McDonald House has been their home away from home for more than 2,500 families every night for families around the world. Programs such as Pop Top Collections help to support the more than 170 Houses these families call home. Since the program has began, it has raised over $750,000 for the houses. Pop tabs are a higher quality aluminum and more valuable by weight than the entire cans. Because they are smaller in size and cleaner, they are easier to store. Any organization can begin their own programs.

Pop tops

Golden Key has been implementing this program for a few years now. Knowing that students drink many kinds of beverages in aluminum cans, the Pop Tops campaign is perfect for a college campus. This year the collection was another great success. The UW-L chapter raked in 470lbs of pop tops. A competition is held each year between the residence halls and the fraternities and sororities on campus. The winner in the race between the halls was the reigning champion, Angel Hall. Alpha Xi Delta won their division with 15 lb. After the collection day is over, the tabs are then packaged and shipped to a recycling center. One hundred percent of the money earned is donated directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, Minnesota. The UW-L chapter encourages everyone to start pulling for families who need our help. This program makes it easy to help area families with ill children. Tell friends, neighbors, and family and remember, it all adds up. Golden Key appreciates any amount that can be contributed to our foundation.
