Position Description

 

UW-La Crosse currently has two IS Technical Services - Senior positions to be filled. Both positions will provide desktop support to faculty and staff, however one will additionally oversee and coordinate the functional aspects of the Eagle Help Desk.

Job Duties
These positions will work under the general supervision of the Client Services manager and work within the established goals and priorities that are consistent with that of the Information Technology Services unit goals. The positions provide desktop support for faculty and staff for hardware, software and operating systems including troubleshooting and problem resolution. These positions work on special projects and assignments related to desktop hardware and software supported by the university, write documentation for end-users, and conduct small group training on support topics as needed.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge or experience of Windows and Macintosh hardware and operating systems (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OSX, and/or Linux etc.); applications such as Microsoft's Office Suite products; e-mail clients (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Google, etc.); anti-virus software, web editing software (e.g. Microsoft SharePoint Designer), spyware and malware removal tools and other common desktop applications and utilities; related server environments (e.g. Windows servers, Active Directory, domain workstations, etc.), network environments and configuration (e.g. TCP/IP, VLANs, etc.), and basic server functions. Knowledge or experience with AD and Group Policy; deploying images across a network and troubleshooting a failed image deployment and an understanding of networking - wired and wireless - configuration. The ability to effectively multitask, troubleshoot hardware/software and resolve issues in a timely manner, work with a diverse group of student help and professional staff; technical ability with scripting; communicate clearly (verbal and written) and have a clear understanding, work ethic, and personality to provide end users understandable, friendly, timely, and quality service and support; and to train and work with students. Applicants must be physically able to bend, crawl, squat, and lift a max. of 60 lbs.

Application Procedure

If you wish to apply for these positions you will be required to complete an online exam and upload a current resume with reference information. Applying is a 7 step process.

Step 1: Log into your Wisc.Jobs account or create an account using the following web site: http://wisc.jobs/public/index.asp Search for the Job announcement code 1300103 and go into the announcement.
Step 2: Open the job announcement that you were on previously and click on “Apply Now” at the top or bottom of the screen. Review the information in the “My Job Application”, make any necessary updates and click on “Submit Personal Information.”
Step 3: Complete the information on the Employment Information and Preferences screen. This must be completed to apply for this recruitment. Once complete click the “Update Employment Preferences”.
Step 4: Attach your resume to your application. If you don’t have a resume downloaded to your job cart yet, follow the instructions on the page to do so.
Step 5: At the “Application Detail” screen click on the “View Exam Option” button, and then the “Take Exam” button on the next screen.
Step 6: You must save your responses on each page. Please note that WiscJobs will time out after 20 minutes if the page you are working on has not been completed and saved and the answers on that page will need to be re-entered. This will not affect your answers on previous pages.
Step 7: When you have completed the exam click the '"Save and Finalize" button. At the next screen click "Finalize". After you have finalized your exam, you will be sent an email by the system confirming that your exam has been completed. If you exit the exam and re-enter later to update your answers, you will need to save each page and finalize or your answers may not be recorded. After you have finalized your exam, you will be sent an email by the system confirming that your exam has been completed.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, January 20, 2013. If you have any problems with the exam, please call the Office of State Employment Relations' help desk at (608) 267-1012. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Application materials will be evaluated and those qualified will be invited to participate in the next step of the selection process.

NOTE: There will be no assistance for any technical issues you may encounter after 4:30 p.m. Friday, January 18th before the January 20th deadline.
