STEP 3:  SCREENING APPLICANTS/INTERVIEWING
CANDIDATES CHECKLIST

Screen applicants with approved criteria, using approved search process.  Any changes in procedure require ADVANCE APPROVAL IN WRITING from AAD, HR, and P/VC or Chancellor (dependent upon reporting line)

Complete the Request to Interview and Applicant List with candidate numbers (the numbers used on the EEO forms you sent out); the most qualified candidates that you wish to interview should be listed in alpha order in tier I, additional qualified candidates should be listed in alpha order in tier II.   The remaining applicants should be listed on a separate page sorted by candidate number with reason codes (from back of the form).

Notify Jennifer Wilson in HR in writing of any UW System employees who will be interviewed—provide their name, institution, current title and title and recruitment number of position applying for; by UWS policy the Vice Chancellor of the other UWS campus will be notified of the interview

Send letter to tier 3 candidates that they are no longer being considered—sample on the web

Arrange campus interviews—tips are available on the web

Complete the Pre-Approval for Reimbursement form and submit to DO/Dean who retains for later use—form is required for state audits

Complete and send to HR the Alphabetical Listing, by Last Name, of Finalists as required by Wisconsin Statute 19.36(7) within 2 working days of acceptance of an interview invitation; send updated listings if applicable.

Prepare for the interview with legal and useful questions, campus arrangements, etc.  See suggestions and help on the web

Conduct telephone reference checks, if procedures indicate—see resources on the web

Conduct telephone interviews prior to inviting candidates to campus for an interview (not required but can be very helpful in the process)
