Tax Returns

>> April 15 - is the deadline to submit your tax return:

If you were employed at any time during the year of 2006, you must file the tax return. Your employer will send you a W-2 form around January-beginning of February; this form includes information on how much you got paid and how much taxes you have paid. Use this form to file your tax return. Filing federal income tax forms is the personal responsibility of each international student and scholar.

Unfortunately, Office of International Education or International Student Organization cannot help you file the taxes, but the University of Texas has developed a website designed specifically for international students.

Note: You need to mail your forms to the following address

Internal Revenue Service Center

Austin, TX 73301-0215

If you are still not clear as to what forms you need to fill out and how to do them, we encourage you to get professional help. Please be aware that each student/scholar is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of his/her income tax returns and any resulting penalties or interest.
