Installing and Running VNC for Windows

VNC is a remote support utility that allows us to view a users screen, and also lets us control the mouse and keyboard.  This is only to be used on campus by university owned machines (only faculty and staff members). To install:

  • Save the attachment below to your desktop and double click it to start the installer.
  • When the prompt asks if you would like to install VNC appears, click yes.
  • Follow the on screen instructions to install the application.

Once VNC is installed it can be accessed by going to the start menu, going to programs, and finding the category called TightVNC. Click on Launch TightVNC Server. If this is the first time running VNC a properties page will appear. Specify a password of vnc before clicking ok (you will need to enter this for both "Primary password" and "View-only password"). An icon should now appear in the taskbar by the clock. Placing the mouse on the TightVNC icon should bring up a yellow box that contains the IP address we need to connect to your machine.
