Gaming Consoles in Residence Halls
The University of Wisconsin - La Crosse does not encourage students to use the campus network connection in order to play video games or take advantage of other network functions currently available through gaming consoles, but we do understand that many students now own and use their gaming consoles in their daily lives. We do not support any issues you may encounter while playing video games or using gaming consoles for any reason in the residence halls. Also, we do not guarantee the network connection speed or quality gaming consoles receive in the residence halls, especially during academic hours. The campus network and internet connection received in the residence halls to be used first and foremost for the completion of academic related work and research. That being said, below you will find information regarding connecting some of the most popular gaming consoles to the campus network.
Wireless Network and Gaming Consoles
Although all recent gaming consoles come with the capability of being attached to a wireless network, no current gaming console supports the enterprise encryption placed on our campus network. Unfortunately, this means that all gaming consoles will have to connect to the network in the residence halls via an ethernet (wired) connection. Keep in mind, you are forbidden to use a router or access point in the residence halls (wired or wireless). Violation of this rule will result in punishment of the owner of the device.
