Email Configuration for Mobile Devices and Unsupported Mail Clients

If you choose to set up your UW-L email account on a mobile device or an unsupported mail client, you do so at your own risk.  Not all mail clients and mobile mail devices support Microsoft Exchange Mail Servers, so the following settings may not configure properly.  Unsupported mail clients also run the risk of removing email messages from the server, leaving them inaccessible via other computers (click here for more information).  If you run into issues while configuring mobile devices or any mail client other than Outlook (for PCs) or Entourage (for Macs), the ITS Support Center is unable to be of any assistance to you.

If you are still willing to take on the risk of configuring and supporting any issues you have with accessing your UW-L email via a smart phone, iPod Touch, iPhone, or mail client other than Outlook or Entourage, the following information may help guide you through the configuration process.  If you would prefer to use either of the supported mail clients, directions for configuring these can be found here

Common Mail Settings

Mail Servers

Depending on the capabilities, you may be able to set up email access via POP, IMAP, or Exchange.  For most devices, the following should be used as the mail server:

  • https://uwlax.edu/exchange (for Exchange configuration - Some devices and clients may only need you to input https://uwlax.edu as your mail server)
  • mail.uwlax.edu (for most IMAP and POP configurations)

Domain

If your devices asks for a domain, the domain should always be EAGLE

Additional Information

You will also need your 8.4 Username and Password to access email.  Please be advised, many unsupported mail clients and mobile devices will cache your password, so you will never have to enter it after initially setting it up.  Although this may seem convenient, it is a security risk.  Along with that, when you have to change your password every 120 days, you may have to re-enter your login credentials in the mail settings.

Some mobile devices make you go online to the cellular providers website to change your mail settings.  You will have to remember the password you use for that website (through your cellular provider) in order to make these changes.  The ITS Support Center cannot offer any sort of assistance with navigating through these websites and settings.

At Your Own Risk

As stated previously, if you choose to use an unsupported mail client or a mobile device to receive your university email, you do so at your own risk.  If you run into any issues while configuring or using an unsupported mail client or mobile device, the ITS Support Center will not help you.
