Wireless Network FAQs

Is wireless available in the dorms? With the exception of Reuter, there are no wireless access points stationed in the residence rooms. Students are not allowed to add their own wireless points to the network for security reasons. However, there are wireless access points in the basement of each residence hall. Students living in Reuter can connect to the wireless network while in  their residence rooms.

Do I need anything special to use the wireless network? Yes, your computer will need a wireless network card. This is different than the network card you use to plug the cable into while in your residence hall. A wireless network card is a separate piece (or built into some computers - check your computer's specifications). The cards can be 802.11g (faster and recommended) or 802.11b cards.

I have Windows XP, do I need to do anything to setup the wireless access? Yes, just a few things. Check out our wireless configuration information for Windows XP above. You will need a valid university user name (8.4) and password to access the wireless network.
