What are software & hardware support changes?

The Joint ITS Committee has approved the software and hardware support changes for UW-La Crosse following feedback from campus.  Support changes will be phased in over the summer with final changes in place for the Fall Semester of 2009.

There are two sets of changes. Changes to GCA Labs/Classrooms detail the hardware and software that will be changed or added in the GCA labs and computer classrooms around campus. Imaged teacher podiums will also be updated accordingly. Most of the hardware changes proposed are contingent upon funding yet to be allocated. For information on which labs and classrooms are covered under the GCA changes, please visit http://www.uwlax.edu/gca.

The other changes for Offices and Administration detail the changes to what the ITS Support Center will support for software and hardware on university owned computers. Please keep in mid that these are only the CHANGES for the upcoming fiscal year. For a complete list of supported software, please visit http://www.uwlax.edu/itssupport/services/software.htm.

* Limited Support (new applications): ITS Support staff may not yet have access to, training on, or experience with these designated products. Availability to manufacture's support resources may be restricted, limited, or non-existent. Resolving problems likely will take longer and sometimes may go unresolved. It is recommended that only users with computing expertise or those who have a specific need use products identified as "Limited Support".

** Phase Out Limited Support: As hardware, operating systems, applications, and network clients age, access to manufacture's support resources becomes restricted, limited, or non-existent and support knowledge wanes with the frequent turnover of staff. A designation of "Limited Support" may take significantly longer to resolve or may go unresolved. It is recommended that folks begin to evaluate their older/legacy products for upgrades or replacement purchase - to remain within the defined "full support" window.
