professors, and become part of a close-knit group of incoming
students. Join us in the summer as you build your foundation for
the next four years!
This unique program takes place during a six-week session or four-week session depending on the cohort you choose. It combines popular and required courses with mentoring and group activities that will give you a “jump start” on your academic career.
JumpStart provides incoming freshmen the opportunity to begin their college career at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse by way of a learning cohort. JumpStart students take two courses together in groups of 25 that are reserved exclusively for first-year students, live together in the same residence hall, and have an upper class student mentor to guide them through their initial college experience. This specially designed, unique learning opportunity is offered only during the summer and only to first year undergraduates admitted to UW-La Crosse.

groups with faculty members in the classroom and
residence halls.
- Make new friends!
JumpStart students live in the same
residence hall and form friendships that last
through their entire college experience.
- Get to know the campus and its support services to ensure success during the academic year. These include the library, tutoring center, career services, academic advising, wellness programs, student health, student government, and the Recreation Eagle Center.
- Enjoy the summer in the beautiful La Crosse area. With an abundance of natural beauty, woods, water and wildlife, La Crosse offers much in the way of recreation – golfing, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking or swimming.
