SPANISH 303 GRADE POLICY AND APPEAL PROCESS

Any student who receives a grade below “B” in SPA 303 will not be allowed to continue in the next minor-/major-level course. If a student is denied  access to continuance in the minor/major, an appeal process exists, but a decision to appeal should be weighed very carefully and in consultation with the instructor of the course and a Spanish section advisor. It is the responsibility of the student to monitor his/her own progress in the course and to consult with the instructor before registering for the next if he/she is likely to receive below a “B” in the course. Since registration for the next level occurs before the current course is completed, it is essential that students be aware of their current standing in the course.

Any student who wishes to appeal must complete the appeal form—within two weeks after semester grades are due—and submit it to the department chair or to a designated person in the Department of Modern Languages. An ad hoc committee, comprised of the student’s course instructor and two other Spanish instructors (selected by alphabetical rotation), will review the appeal. The student will be notified of the results of the appeal at least one week before the beginning of the next semester.
